I bought the Mesa V2 for my grandson, and from the moment we got it out of the box, I was impressed. UPPAbaby clearly put a lot of thought into how this seat works for real parents and babies, especially when safety matters most. The design, build, and features show that nothing was skimped on, and when it comes to a grandchild, you want every safety measure in place.One of the standout features is the SmartSecure system. It uses auto-retracting LATCH connectors and a red-to-green tightness indicator. That indicator is gold for anyone who’s ever wondered if their installation is “just right.” It’s almost effortless to tell you’ve done it properly. The base installs solidly and securely, which gives me peace of mind every time we click him in.The seat also includes a robust infant insert that helps with fit and positioning for very small babies (roughly 4 to 11 pounds), which means he’s held snugly without any awkward gaps. The headrest is padded well, with side impact protection, and the materials all around feel high quality, soft, breathable, and apparently free from fire-retardant chemicals, which is a big plus. The UPF 25+ canopy is significantly larger than older versions, so it shields better from sun and light, something you notice especially when using it with the stroller.It connects directly to UPPAbaby Vista and Cruz strollers without needing adapters, which makes switching between car and stroller much faster. For travel or rides where you don’t want to haul the base, there’s a European routing seatbelt path so you can use it safely without the base. That flexibility is very welcome.If I had to point out drawbacks, the base is a bit bulky, it takes up noticeable space in the vehicle. Also, while the crash test results are within standards, some expert reviews suggest it doesn’t outperform some competing seats in extreme impact tests. But for everyday use I believe it offers a solid balance of comfort, convenience, and safety.

My favorite car seat
I have 3 kids and have had several UPPAbaby seats through the years and their entire travel system plus all the accessories. I have always loved the convenience and style of the UPPAbaby car seat but with my 3rd baby, we originally wanted to try out another brand similar to UPPAbaby that was baseless as we needed the flexibility of no base when trying to squeeze 3 large car seats in my car. While that other brand’s seat was convenient, it just didn’t feel as secure as the UPPAbaby seat.My husband was actually in a vehicle accident with 2 of my kids in the car (everyone was save, except the truck was totaled) and because of that, we had to get all new car seats, fortunately covered by insurance. Thankfully my baby wasn’t in the truck at the time, but the empty carseat from the other brand we had tested out was in there and then needed to be replaced. Instead of getting the same one from the other brand, we knew we immediately should go back to UPPAbaby because we trust the brand to keep our kids safe, even after testing other luxury brands. I’m thankful to have this seat and have trusted it with all 3 of my kids.It is also easy to take in and out of the car. I love that it has the slots to hold the buckles back, and has many inserts that can be taken out as baby grows. I do wish it was a little lighter and and possibly accommodated a bigger baby, but I think that’s just part of how the seat as to be. I wouldn’t say it’s too heavy because honestly when you’ve got a 90th percentile 6 month old, any carseat is heavy! That said, my daughter is large (very long) and is starting to outgrow it already. Overall though, I have been very happy with this car seat.

If you’re looking for a safe and reliable car seat for your baby that’s not bulky look no further. It’s lightweight yet super sturdy. The cushions are padded and so soft for your little baby as well as the ease of having the little holes to put the metal adapter in while you put your baby in the seat vs others where you’re fighting to keep it just right. But the weight is honestly what sold me. Babies already weigh enough so having a light yet super safe seat is so nice. It’s so easy to just snap in and out of the base and even easier to set up.
